* St Andrews Lent Lunches: Starting on Wednesday 29 February at 12 noon in St Andrew’s Church. £3 per head. All are welcome.
* Lent Study Course: Each Sunday starting on 26 February, except Mothering Sunday 18 March, at 6:00pm in the vestry of the church.
It seems a long time since Christmas now, and we have reached the point where we are beginning to look forward to the season of Lent.
There are two things in particular to draw attention to for the Lent season. Firstly the Lent Lunches will take place once again, starting on Wednesday 29th February at 12 noon in St Andrew’s Church, at £3 per head. All are welcome, and proceeds will help church funds.
Secondly, we will mark Lent in addition to our usual services, by holding a Lent Study Course each Sunday (except 18 March – Mothering Sunday) at 6:00pm in the Vestry in church. Again, everyone is welcome and I am grateful to the Revd John Hine for running this for us once again. This starts on February 26th.
Lent starts with Ash Wednesday on February 22nd. The best way to begin Lent is to be in church, and our service will be at 10 am, our usual Wednesday service time. As we head towards longer days and brighter skies, I hope that we can also look ahead in our spiritual journey as we keep Lent faithfully and well, seeking the opportunity not only to give something up, but also take something up too.
Looking far ahead, the Bishop of Carlisle will be with us on June 17th at 3.30 pm to conduct a confirmation service. Adults and young people (in Year 7 or above) are invited to enquire about this. There is already a strong group of people committed to this, but others may join them. Church time at 11 am each Sunday is the place to find out more, or contact one of the clergy.
With every good wish for God’s blessing
Canon Geoffrey Ravalde
There are activities for all ages of children each Sunday during the 11 am service.
