Thursby Parish Hall: 2017 future Dates for The Diary

5 August (Saturday) – Drive Sale in Thursby, with Table Top and Coffee Morning in Thursby Parish Hall:

There was a lot of good feedback after the Drive Sale Day last August, so we thought we would organise one again.

There will be the usual Table Top & Coffee Morning in the Parish Hall from 10:00 to 12 noon with the Drive Sale around the village going on that morning approximately between 9:00 and 1:00PM.

Thursby Drive Sale – Saturday 5 August 2017 -  9:00 to 1:00pm

What’s a Drive Sale?? Have you had a look around the house or garden shed recently and thought  ‘I really would like to get rid of some of this stuff, but I don’t fancy sitting in the rain all day at a car boot sale, or piling everything into the car to go to a Table Top Sale’?

A Drive Sale is the solution!

All you need to do is get your ‘stuff’ out on your drive, garden or path; sign up to be included in our Drive Sale map (the sign up slip is on the reverse plus £5 please), and wait for people to come to you.  What could be easier??!

The Parish Hall Committee will produce a map for the day. This will show all the sellers, with information if available on what sort of items may be for sale. The maps will be for sale for £1 at the Parish Hall from 9:00 that morning. We are asking sellers to have their items available between 9:00 and 1:00.

This isn’t all! Also on the 5th there will be the regular Table Top & Coffee Morning from 10 to 12 in the Parish Hall, where the Thursby Craft Club will be providing their usual delicious home baking. With a number of our regular stall holders in the Hall that morning, there will be a lot of browsing to do.

28 October (Saturday) – Family Ceilidh and Supper with Thrice Brewed. Always a great night for all ages!

12 November (Saturday) – Cosgrove & Banks   (Arts Out West)

An exciting folk/acoustic duo. Mike has worked with artists as diverse as the late “Celtic Soul” singer Jackie Leven and current star of the English scene Jackie Oates, as well as bluegrass virtuosos Daily Planet and highly regarded singer-songwriters Jenny Crook and Reg Meuross, but started with renowned late 90s Celtic/World music crossover band Sin é. Steve started out as a violinist with the likes of the London Symphony Orchestra, but then moved to folk as drummer / fiddler with the Carnival Band, including their ever-popular Christmas tours with folk legend Maddy Prior. He went on to form his own band, Blue Jewel, which recorded two albums, with material written or arranged by Steve: Dart Songs, and John Smart’s Bottle.

Both are gifted multi-instrumentalists and writers. Mike plays accordion, guitar and whistle, with Steve on fiddle, vocals and guitar. Their programme is a smorgasbord of beautiful music, traditional and contemporary, from Britain and Europe (mainly France, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe). Their debut CD, Warp & Weft, has received great reviews.

Audience range: 10 plus.

“This CD takes you to places you didn’t know had such beautiful and/or quirky music. Steve Banks and Mike Cosgrave are superb musicians bringing unexpected gems for our delight. Soulful and fun. What more could you want?” – Maddy Prior

“Superb playing and singing, all with a great sense of style and fun!” – Tom McConville

“Their debut is very good indeed. They take traditional tunes, songs and motifs and weave them into exhilarating new compositions.”     – fRoots
